SHOES OFF was birthed in the midst of an isolating pandemic and a time of hyper-awareness in mass media relating to xenophobia and violence against Asian Americans. My team, itching to get back into production since the beginning of the mandated quarantine, decided to create a series that would allow us to exercise our creative muscles, connect with friends, and share stories that would continue the work of painting a fuller picture of Asian Americans in the creative industry. Although we were ill-equipped, particularly in Asian American studies and critical theory, to do justice to this work, this is the result of what I see as an honest effort.

I was part of my team’s rotation of creatives, taking turns as DP, Gaffer, Camera Operator, Gimbal Operator, Editor, and BTS Photographer. I took lead on the creative direction for the stop motion Intro Sequence. I photographed and edited the sequence with the assistance of Looie Kang. I also took lead in designing the graphic titles for each of the episodes.
